If you are interested in becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) then you should contact some vocational schools that offer lpn training near you or in a city you would like to live in during your education. LPN training programs can vary, but 1-2 years of education will be most likely what you will need.
If you are looking at changing careers to become an LPN and are older then traditional students, do not worry. Even if you are nervous or terrified about going back to school later in life, do not worry. It is very common for older people (by older meaning 22 – 60+ years old) to go to college for the first time or to return to school to complete their education. Also, many people decide to change careers later in life, sometimes more then once and therefore go back to college or go to a vocational school to get the education they need for a new career. You may be surprised that most, if not all, colleges and vocational schools are full of people older then 22 years old who have returned to school.
After you have finished your Licensed Practical Nursing education and worked as an LPN for a while, you may want to advance your career. If you decide to do this, then a common path is to go from an LPN to RN by going to either a campus based college or choosing from some lpn to rn online programs to complete your training. Many nurses become an LPN and later decide to be an RN, which is a logical next step. There could be many reasons for going down this career path including wanting to complete career training and start working in a new job as quickly as possible, then returning later to school after they start making some decent money.
